About me

My name is Troels Myrup Kristensen. I am a postgraduate student in the Department of Classical Archaeology at the University of Aarhus, Denmark. I’m also a member of the research project “Art and Social Identities in Late Antiquity“, funded by the Danish Research Council. As of 2008, I hold an “EliteForsk” Fellowship from the Danish Ministry of Science. For January to August 2009, I am a Visiting Graduate Student in the Faculty of Classics and a Visiting Member of King’s College, University of Cambridge.

Education:

PhD candidate in Classical Archaeology, University of Aarhus. Expected time of completion: January 2010. Preliminary dissertation title: “Archaeologies of Response: Christian Destruction, Mutilation and Transformation of Pagan Sculpture in the Eastern Mediterranean from the 4th to the 6th century CE.” Advisors: Niels Hannestad, Lea Stirling.

MA (cand.mag.) in Classical Archaeology, University of Aarhus. Specialization: Roman archaeology. Completed: August 2006. Thesis: “Towards an Archaeology of Iconoclasm: The Destruction and Mutilation of Roman Sculpture in Late Antiquity.” Advisor: Niels Hannestad.

BA in Classical Archaeology (with minor stints in Landscape and Medieval Archaeology and Ancient History), University of Aarhus. Completed: June 2004.

Main academic interests: Roman archaeology, archaeological theory, landscapes, memory studies, Aphrodisias, late antiquity, Pompeii and surroundings, social aspects of architecture.
